Calcium chloride is an ionic compound of calcium and chlorine. Because of its chemical properties that enable it to attract and hold water while remaining inert makes it ideal for drying acetylene at medium and high pressures. Calcium Chloride briquettes are used in the Rexarc acetylene production plant to help dry saturated acetylene. It is used in the medium pressure drier (MPD), located on the process skid as well as in the high pressure driers (HPD’s) after compression to provide maximum drying effectiveness. Unlike other sources, this product is specified by Rexarc such that it has a longer service life and less drain plugging because of the specific size that Rexarc provides.
